The brief: Design and build a bespoke internally illuminated Complexion Bar for NARS
The design featured a beige colour palette in a piano pattern that needed to remain illuminated. Conventional methods oCNC machining were used for the manufacturer. All graphics, including text and Duratrans, would need to be produced using innovative methods to maintain suitable robustness within the retail environment.
To ensure the mirrored back panel would be protected despite heat emission from internal illumination and video screens.
To protect the UV-printed coloured plates from potential damage due to constant customer interaction.
Key2 Group quickly explored, developed and installed a bespoke method for this which included a new way of bonding the inks and a new ventilation technique in the base to allow the warmer air to escape thus preventing the mirrored acrylic from warping.
We also developed a method to keep the mirror more connected leaving us with a unit that was fit for purpose.
Having established this successful new method, production drawings were prepared to enable the production of a prototype unit ready for client approval. Production costs were also presented to the client. These proposals and a prototype unit were approved and demonstrated at the NARS store in the Kings Road, London.
The CTU was well received by NARS. These new Key2-developed CTU’s now feature in all NARS stores and concessions across the UK. Some are now filtering into Europe and the Far East too.
